Dr. Timothy Henderson is a Sport Medicine Fellowship trained, Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon who has been in practice for 8 years. After being in practice for 2 years as the director of a busy Trauma based Orthopedic Surgery Department in Columbus, GA, Dr. Henderson completed a self designed mini-fellowship focused on the study of minimally invasive & outpatient anterior total hip replacement. He has since become an instructor of the technique and is active in technology design to make the process even less invasive. A native of Livingston, New Jersey, Dr. Henderson recently returned to his home state & after a short time as the Director and Chief of the Orthopedic Service at Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, has become the newest member of the Gotham City Orthopedics.
While his main interest lies in minimally invasive total hip replacements, Dr. Henderson is Fellowship trained in Sports Medicine from UCLA where he assisted in the care of elite level, Division-I and professional athletes, has extensive knowledge and expertise in arthroscopy of the shoulder and knee, total joint arthroplasty of the knee and shoulder, and traumatic injuries in both the child and adult.
Dr. Henderson is the surgeon designer of the ATHELLO Table Extension. The ATHELLO, which stands for Anterior Total Hip Equal Leg Length Operation, is a table extension device, which allows the surgeon to safely manipulate the hip in order to perform a total hip replacement without cutting through any muscles, tendons or ligaments. This dramatically decreases trauma to soft tissues, greatly reduces the chance of post-operative hip dislocation and radically speeds recovery. With the use of the ATHELLO and the direct anterior approach, selected patients may be able to be discharged home the same day from the hospital after total hip replacement surgery or can even have their procedure performed in a an outpatient surgery center.
Dr. Henderson has been a diplomat of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery since 2009 (Board Certified) and is an elected member of the Fellowship of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (FAAOS). He completed his residency at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, received his medical doctorate at George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC and completed his undergraduate degree in Biological Anthropology at Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, PA.
Dr. Henderson remains at the forefront of advancement of orthopedic procedures and technology and is active in the design of products that are currently being used within the orthopedic surgery community. He began his full-time practice at Gotham City Orthopedics in September 2014.
